Let’s Celebrate!

I have experienced a fair amount of challenge and disruption over the last five years. The difficulties came like waves one after another so much so that it just became normal. Maybe that’s why this past month has been so surprisingly wonderful. First, we celebrated our daughter’s marriage! She lives nearby and we have a lovely relationship with her and her husband. The wedding was beautiful, the weather was perfect, and there was zero drama. Second…and this is HUGE, after a five year estrangement with our oldest daughter, we took significant steps toward reconciliation. The family wedding became a time of healing, forgiveness, and reconnection. I don’t yet know how everything will turn out, but it feels like a new day. I am shouting for joy, taking a victory lap, and maybe even attempting a cartwheel…it’s time to celebrate!

“Rejoice with those who rejoice and

weep with those who weep.”

Romans 12:15

I think most of us understand the importance of coming alongside someone in their time of grief and pain, but I love that this scripture also calls us to rejoice together. Perhaps joy and celebration are doorways for us to connect more deeply with God and with one another. Your turn…

  • Is there someone you could join in celebrating their good news?

  • Think back on the past few months, what can you find (big or small) that is worth remembering and celebrating? With whom could you share?

  • Is there something that is holding you back from dancing with joy? What would it look like to actively grieve and let go?
